NPS General Meeting
Dakota Arts
Sat. May 7th, 2011
Jo Ann called the meeting to order at 12:45pm and thanked the Members for coming.
Members Show 2011 cost & income:
Painting pickup will begin on Wednesday, May 11th. The Member show was well participated. Our juror, Rick Kirsten, Owner of the Kirsten Gallery http://www.kirstengallery.com/ gave an informative talk. With regard to the NPS 2011 Member Show Awards, Rick did not state specific reasons as to why he made certain choices for but gave a nice introduction to each piece he did award.
Treasurer, Gary Gumble stated that with specifics to finances with the Member Show, we generally do not make a profit if we do not offer a coordinating Workshop with the Member Show. This year, we took in $1875. Our expenses were $3428. Overall spending is about $1600. This is not uncommon. Per Treasurer Gary Gumble, Last years Member Show was a bit more profitable as Bill McEnroe generously donated back the $1000 cash award he had been honored for Best in Show the NPS. President Jo Ann also noted that as of two weeks into the show, none of the pieces had yet sold, we do not have a current update, but we do recognize that this is a sign of the economic times.
Jo Ann also reminded that on a positive note, the International Show sold 10 paintings
New System of Entries of Shows:
In light of the fact that the order entry process is very labor intensive and time consuming, Webmaster, Penny Chadwell has found and is recommending the ongoing use of an online Company who does specialize in online order entry specific to Art. The name of the Company is Juried Shows.com. http://www.onlinejuriedshows.com/. Bonnie stated that she has entered Shows that this Company has managed and found it to be a success. This new system is going to be very efficient and the cost will be half as much as it did to us when we struggled with it. Bonnie stated that Members need to remember to use the highest setting as possible on the camera when taking images for entries. Be cautious of the initial size. Penny reminded people to choose the setting that gives you the fewest photos on your memory card since fewer photos with higher resolution is the goal. Our newly elected online entry company, Juried Shows.com is very streamlined and we expect the process to be user friendly and effective. The information for submitting for the international Show will be out by May 15th. The decision to use this new Company was motioned in the Board Meeting by Susan Scott and seconded by Penny Chadwell.
Membership Chair Transition:
Penny has compiled and collated the Membership information and Brenda Boyland will take over the Membership Chair Position. This process is expected to be more organized and uniform. We are looking forward to this transition.
Paint Out Status- Camp Casey-
President Jo Ann stated that the status is not definite yet. This has been a different situation than we have had in past. Historically painters have handled their own housing. This situation includes lodging and is a little more complicated as an insurance waiver is required by Camp Casey for participants. Jo Ann encouraged people to please participate and the reservation deadline is May 13th. The Facility requires a minimum amount of people staying. The minimum is 21 people. Camp Casey's minimum requirement is that 30 beds are paid for but we only need 21 people to cover Camp Casey's minimum of 30 people. Whidbey Island is a great place to stay.
Signature Show Report- August:
The deadline for the Signature Show is June 21st. This will Show in the Scott Milo Gallery in Everett.
A Signature Member is someone who has gotten juried into three International Shows.
A Distinguished Signature Member is one who has gotten one of the top three Awards of three International Shows.
Members meeting- August 20th:
President Jo Ann stated that our Membership meeting will be held either in Kirkland or Tumwater area. We are lining up a few demos for this Meeting. Six of our Members got into the Pastel Journal contest and received awards. Jo Ann invited all six to participate in giving a demo. Some are not able but we do expect to have two or three of these artists participate. These demos will be different simultaneous demos with varying genres.
International Show- Nov 12 Reception
The Workshop will be Nov 9,10th, & 11th. It will be in Donna Trents Studio. The Juror will be Clark Mitchell. http://cgmitchell.com/artist.html. On Saturday, Nov. 12th, there will be a Painting Exchange/Potluck mid day sharing, camaraderie and we will then head to the Gallery for the reception which would start at two pm.
