ARTIST NOTE: If you are one of the artists who joined us on Lopez this August, I'd love to have a short paragraph telling of your experience during this week of painting and send a jpg photo of one of your pieces. I will post them here on this page.
Send them to jennifer@evenhusfineart.com

Lopez Island provided a magical week for us as we discovered the landscape and ourselves at the same time. From the Peninsula to the Harbor to the Church and the Sea we found endless vistas to claim as our own wonderland to paint.

We bonded once again with old friends and welcomed new friends into our midst.
After all, artists are a family of one aren't we? All seeking the perfect light, the perfect composition, the perfect color. Knowing that we only have a lifetime to achieve it.

A funny thing happened to me - I came to "know" the Island. Somehow it held me. Still does. I feel it waiting for my return. I suppose that is the feeling an artist is blessed with when he is able to paint every day "in" the landscape - "in" the world. Somehow the colors are more true, more alive, more real.
I can't wait for the next paint-out.

Lopez Island was my best paint-out experience ever! How wonderful-- after years of being a member "in absentia"--to put faces to the names I'd read about in the newsletters. The week was wonderfully organized, thanks to all who put it together. The locations were picture perfect. Word has it that this may become an annual event.

Sign me up for next year. You'll have an even larger contingent of Portland/SW Washington artists for sure. Eventually word will get out and we'll need a larger island to accommodate all of us! Vancouver Island, anyone?

Laurie Crawford
Thank you so much for posting the shots of all the painters and various locations on Lopez. It was my first such NPS outing for several days like that and what a time I had.

Everything was just arranged too well. I got back to Gallery 10 with my family to see the show and what a lot of examples of how artist's see the same scene differently. I look forward to another plein air next year. I am so glad the Wild Watmough preservation was a success. It is a rare and valuable island. Thanks again, Laurie Crawford

There is no place quite like an island. Living on an island myself, I can appreciate the special fabric of community, pride in preservation and relationship with nature. They say that once you have slept on an island, it has you. The days I spent painting on Lopez in August were the highlight of my summer.
