OUR HISTORY
The Northwest Pastel Society (NPS) was incorporated on October 5, 1988 as a
nonprofit corporation dedicated to promoting pastel as a fine art medium. Through NPS
open juried international exhibitions, juried members' exhibitions, workshops, and quarterly
newsletters and meetings (except in summer) members enjoy sharing knowledge, learning
new painting techniques, and passing on published information.
Membership has grown from a small nucleus of Seattle area artists, to a
membership drawn from throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. All officers on the
Board of Directors of NPS are strictly volunteer. Membership is open to all on a
"nonjuried" basis for a
non-prorated fee of $30 (US) due each January 1. Signature membership
(NPS) is earned by having three paintings (one per year) accepted into at
least two NPS Open National Juried Exhibits and one accepted into a Premier NPS Members' Only Exhibit.
Distinguished Pastelist (NPS-DP) is granted to recipients of three cash prizes (one per year) with at least two obtained in NPS Open National Juried Exhibits and one obtained in a Premier
international exhibit.
Internet Access
In August 1996, the Northwest Pastel Society became the first international art society to launch a fully interactive web page. Today, paid members around the world are given an address which provides access to the information resources of the NPS. Since then, membership has grown as artists discover what their membership in the NPS on-line can mean to their development. Today the NPS on-line is able to provide resources to members who live far from large cities and the Pacific Northwest, resources which include mentoring, galleries, training, and information about pastels.
Join us today as we make history, forging a new world through the interactive art resources of the NPS. Become a part of a community of fine artists linked together by the miracle of cyberspace.
