Steve Hill's Demo

Steve Hill gave a wonderful demo at the NPS Winter Meeting in Kirkland on Feb 21. After the excitement of elections, it was so nice to sit back and watch Steve work his magic. For many of us it was a first introduction to pan pastels, and after watching the results of Steve's sponge application, I'll bet members will be trying their hand with this new way to apply pastels.

Bill McEnroe Charms Huge Crowd with Old Barns at the General Meeting, January 18, 2009

Old Barns have a dignity and charm but how does a painter meet the challenge without painting a cliché?  Just ask Bill McEnroe! 

On Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 at the Kingsgate Library in Kirkland to a packed crowd he did just that at his demo for the Northwest Pastel Society.  Bill demonstrated how he begins a work with loose lines bordering the picture plane, “just to get him engaged into the picture”.  He then translates his composition and value sketch “loosely” and begins to paint with joy, humor and professionalism.
